Position opening at FFA BUT: Postdoctoral Research Fellow, app. deadline 1 Sep 2026
The Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA) of Brno University of Technology (BUT) is pleased to announce a call for applications for its postdoc programme, open to international early-career researchers in art history and theory, aesthetics, visual studies, media theory, curatorial studies, and artistic research. The aim of the programme is to support recent PhD graduates in their transition to professional academic careers while contributing to the development of research and innovation at the faculty. The programme offers short-term R2 employment positions through annually announced calls.
The current call invites applications for one full-time position, with an anticipated start date of 1 January 2027, ending on 31 December 2027 (or by agreement).
Who Can Apply
Applicants must have completed their doctoral studies no more than eight years (“maximum period”) prior to the date of application, preferably at an academic institution outside Czechia, or at a Czech university, provided that they were affiliated to a research and/or academic institution abroad for at least one year.
The maximum period may be extended to account for maternity or parental leave, long-term illness exceeding 90 days, or care for a person deemed dependent on assistance under the Czech Social Services Act.
Job Description and Expectations
- Participation in the faculty’s research and development activities through the implementation of the proposed project within the FFA Research Centre.
- Publication of at least one article in a top-quartile (Q1 or Q2) journal indexed in the Web of Science with clear affiliation to FFA BUT.
- Involvement in academic activities within the doctoral study programme (e.g. one lecture, seminar, or thesis consultation per semester).
- A public presentation communicating the research to the wider public.
Application Requirements
- A research proposal (max. 3 pages), written clearly and concisely, including:
- Project title,
- Research focus, including research questions and methods,
- Motivation for conducting the research at FFA BUT,
- Project timeline,
- Specification of spatial, material, or other required resources.
- A structured CV (including a list of publications) with current contact details (address, phone number, email).
- A list of authored academic publications or a portfolio of research projects related to the proposal.
- Copies (scans) of documents attesting to institutional affiliations and academic degrees earned.
Evaluation Criteria
- Originality and research potential of the proposed project.
- Relevance of the project aims and outputs to the faculty’s research activities.
- Feasibility of the project within a one-year timeframe.

Selection Procedure
The selection process will consist of two rounds. The first round involves internal evaluation of submitted applications. Applications will be assessed based on the originality and potential of the proposed project, its relevance to FFA’s research and teaching focus, and the feasibility of its implementation within the proposed timeline. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a second round in the form of an online interview.
Results will be announced by 30 September 2026.
