Basic information about the gallery:
FFA Gallery (Galerie FaVU) is a vibrant communication space for an emerging generation of artists and curators. It is an experimental laboratory for open dialogue with the academic environment and the public. It offers a background for professional presentation to young artists not only from the ranks of students and PhD students, but also graduates of art schools. The basic mission of the FFA Gallery is to present remarkable results in the field of visual, audiovisual and sound creation.
During the renovation of its original premises on Údolní Street, FFA Gallery will be located in a 19th-century former distillery building at Pekařská 436/78 (in the former cultural centre Distillery). This space is situated in a courtyard within the busiest street of the Old Town of Brno ("Staré Brno"), within walking distance from the faculty buildings.
The gallery layout consists of two main parts – a hall on the raised ground floor and cellar spaces. The hall is a room measuring 10.7 × 6.3 meters. At the rear of the hall, there is a brick podium running across the entire width with a depth of 1.8 meters. The ceiling is vaulted in bands, and the walls are decorated with historic tiles up to a height of 160 cm, as is the floor. The space is illuminated by two tall factory windows and also has electric lighting. The cellar spaces are accessible via stairs from the courtyard. The central vaulted room measures 4.5 × 8.8 meters and is connected to a smaller vaulted space measuring 4.8 × 2.8 meters, accessible through a corridor (1.6 × 3.6 meters). The cellar can be completely darkened, as it has no natural light and only electric lighting. For openings and accompanying programs, a courtyard decorated with greenery and equipped with outdoor furniture is also available.
