Tsonami: situated listening and sound practices from a southern perspective
Over the last 20 years, the Tsonami project has been developed from the city of Valparaíso, Chile. Throughout this journey, the relationship with the social and local context has been a constant way of approaching and understanding listening and working with sound, reacting to the environment and processes of social crisis that allow us to think about the role of situated artistic practices. The lecture will be presented by Fernando Godoy.
TSONAMI
Tsonami Arte Sonoro is an organisation dedicated to the promotion and development of contemporary and experimental sound practices, based in the city of Valparaíso, Chile.
Active since 2007, in its 19 years of existence, Tsonami has promoted research into sound and listening as a subject for artistic experimentation at the intersection with other disciplines of knowledge and the territorial context. The organization currently focuses on four areas of work: Publishing (with physical and digital publications and recordings by Tsonami Ediciones), Training (with projects such as the Diploma in Sound Art and the Latin American School of Sound Art for Children), Artistic Promotion (with projects such as the Tsonami Festival and a permanent residency program), and the management of the experimental radio station radiotsonami.org.
