Exhibition by students of the Environment Studio, opening 1 July 19:30, Prague House Brussels

The exhibition Answers to Ask, which will run from 2 July to 11 September 2026, presents works by students from the Environment Studio at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno (supervised by Barbora Klímová and Jiří (Jirka) Skála) and the Graphic Art Studio 2 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (supervised by Zbyněk Baladrán and Ladislava Gažiová). The project was initiated following an invitation from Prague House in Brussels and documents a process that unfolded over the course of a single semester. During this time, the students not only created their own works but also developed the exhibition’s concept, designed its graphics and installed it themselves. Rather than a traditional selection, we are thus presenting a vivid insight into contemporary art education practice, where the emphasis is on the ability to formulate a strong and distinctive view of the world, to ask original questions and to engage the audience. For this reason, alongside the captions for the individual works, visitors will also find a question posed to them by each artist.

The exhibition is based on a collective brief centred on the English word ‘Power’. Here, this term refers, on the one hand, to an abstract concept of power and, on the other, to specific agents of power. The works on display seek to demonstrate how power influences our capacity for autonomous action and self-determination, and how it defines social inequalities and historical narratives. Due to the complexity of this concept, the students, together with the tutors from the Environmental Studio, decided to divide the exhibited works into three categories addressing environmental, personal and socially focused issues. This division is indicated within the exhibition by a system of pictograms.

Exhibitors: David Caha, Agáta Klimtová, the art collective měkký í (Michaela Kocandová, Zuzana Staňková, Valentýna Vránová), Kateřina Koutná, Lyri, Tamara Mižáková / Alžbeta Papíková, Antonina Muravschi, Lála Myslíková, Irati Oskoz, Šimon Palovčík, Sára Schejbalová, Klára Švamberková, Pisleg Unnyok, Kristína Zubáková, Václav Valda, Vít Vavřena a Matěj Velička
