Visiting Artists’ Studio in the Winter Semester 2026/2027 will be led by artist Martin Chramosta
The Winter Semester 2026/2027 programme led by Martin Chramosta is titled by the author himself Symposium of Situations. It is conceived as an open, field-based platform focused on the critical examination of public space and its blurred boundaries.
During studio meetings, we will collectively undertake walking excursions through Brno, actively investigating the city’s social, sculptural, and architectural layers and conceiving public space as a semantic quarry for our own visual vocabulary. The semester programme combines analytical observation of existing forms of public art with exploratory field trips to urban and peripheral areas. Participating students will, over the course of the semester, develop their own artistic interventions responding to specific places and situations. Outcomes may take the form of temporary installations, sculptures, performances, videos, texts, images or discussion-based formats.
The aim of the semester is to strengthen students’ ability to understand cultural space as fluid and relative, to develop sensitivity towards social, environmental, and political contexts, and to support a multidisciplinary approach to artistic practice. The programme includes a planned visit and collaboration with Die Angewandte (University of Applied Arts) in Vienna. The semester will conclude with a collective exhibition.
The course is intended for students interested in sculpture, spatial practice, performative and intermedia approaches, as well as in critical thinking about art in public space. It is suitable for those who wish to work in the field, experiment with various media and modes of presentation, and who are open to collective work, discussion, and longer-term research processes. No specific technical specialization is required; instead, emphasis is placed on independent thinking, environmental sensitivity, and a willingness to engage in dialogue with specific places and situations.
