SONDA – festival of experimental music and sound art, 1 Nov 2025 18:00, Divadlo na Orlí
On Saturday, 1 November 2025, the fourth annual SONDA festival of experimental music and sound art will take place, featuring concerts by internationally renowned independent electronic musicians as well as multimedia works by alumni, teachers, and students of the Faculty of Fine Arts.
MURCOF (MX/ES), SARA PERSICO (IT/DE), MARCO DONNARUMMA (IT), SORBITOL DROPS (CZ) + multimedia interventions created as part of the project TRYCHTÝŘ
After last year's edition, which took place at several locations in Brno under the subtitle Sonic Spaces, this year's SONDA returns to a one-day, concentrated format – and will remain entirely within the premises of the Divadlo na Orlí. This year (as has become tradition), it will present a legend of the international electronic scene – this time Mexican musician and producer Fernando Corona, alias Murcof. His introspective, minimalist music from inner worlds will be featured in a new A/V show, where emotional compositions on the border between ambient, film music, and IDM will be complemented by visual projections by Barbora Cicoňová and Patrik Kučavík. These are created as part of the Trychtýř project, which systematically connects world-renowned figures in experimental music with talented artists of the upcoming generation from the domestic scene. A completely different experience is promised by the ritual performance Corpus Nils by Italian performer Marco Donnarumma. The artist, who combines technology, interactive sound, light, and his own body, draws the audience into a disturbing audiovisual situation charged with a strange physicality. Using sensors, Donnarumma converts biological signals into intense sound and light patterns in real time, deliberately disrupting the audience's comfort zone and exploring the fragility of the connection between humans and machines in the era of artificial intelligence. Italian sound artist and voice performer Sara Persico weaves together the textures of field recordings, analog synthesizers, and her own voice with exceptional sensitivity. On her critically acclaimed albums Boundary (Karlrecords) and Sphaîra (Subtext), she combines sensitive abstract electroacoustic textures, raw, punk-anchored sound with punchy club beats and field recordings taken, among other places, in a dilapidated complex of an unfinished cultural center in Tripoli, Lebanon, designed in the 1960s by architect Oscar Niemeyer. In addition to these songs, Sara Persico will present brand new music from her upcoming album at the festival, and we can only guess which direction she will take this time. The projections for her performance are being prepared by a team of animators consisting of Denisa Müllerová, Jakub Krejčí, and Matúš Stenko, created on commission as part of the Trychtýř project. This time, the domestic artist is represented by Antonín Závodný, alias Sorbitol Drops, who left a significant mark on the Czech experimental scene with his debut album Remízek Music, released on the respected Ostrava label Gin&Platonic. We can look forward to a powerful dose of intelligent post-club sound based on granular synthesis, skillful mixing, and manipulation of raw samples clearly referencing the techniques of electroacoustic music and musique concrète. This adventurous journey into dense soundscapes full of unexpected twists and turns will satisfy even the most demanding listener. The performance will be accompanied by live diffraction laser projections from the quantum worlds of Jiří Suchánek.
In addition to the concerts themselves, the lobby and foyer will feature sound installations, projections, objects, photos, and paintings by Petr Bradáček, Ondrej Kalužák, Michal Marenčík, Filip Dobrocký, Karolina Raimund, and Matěj Boček, who freely interpret the theme of "new wilderness" as part of the interdisciplinary project TRYCHTÝŘ, which is traditionally a creative part of the SONDA festival.
Festival dramaturgy: Jiří Suchánek and Jan Lichý. The SONDA festival is produced and conceptualized by the SVITAVA – transmedia art lab association. The festival is held with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. The Trychtýř project was also financially supported by the Statutory City of Brno. The festival partners are FFA BUT, HF JAMU, ArtMap, and Fullmoon. Tickets are available for purchase through the smsticket.
