Guided walk around Planýrka with Šárka Svobodová, 25 August 2025 18:00
On Monday, 25 August 2025, at 18:00, we invite you to a guided walk around Planýrka with FFA teacher and architectural historian Šárka Svobodová.
Planýrka: sports, the labor movement, and contemporary development
Meeting point in front of the Bobycentrum Hotel
The vision of an extensive "sports city" behind Lužánky developed in Planýrka in the 1920s. The first major event here was the Brno Spartakiad of the Federation of Workers' Gymnastics Units, which was attended by 13,000 gymnasts and tens of thousands of spectators. In places where members of various gymnastics units originally strengthened their physical and military abilities, and where the poorest people lived on the city's waste in several dozen emergency colony houses, city officials and private investors built their sports dreams throughout the 20th century. A hundred years after various political regimes transformed this vision into more or less ambitious plans and completed buildings, the 21st century has arrived, demolishing the existing sports facilities without a clearer vision. Architectural historian Šárka Svobodová will guide us through the rich history and uncertain future of Planýrka.
