The course gradually introduces students to the operation of the Faculty, its technical facilities, the specialist departments and workshops, and the rules governing their use. A further section presents the structure of the degree programme, including assessment methods and criteria, procedures for submitting applications, opportunities for scholarships and support through student grant competitions, internships within the Faculty and elsewhere in the Czech Republic, and study periods abroad. A separate section covers the fundamentals of academic writing, methodology, working with sources and citation conventions. The course also includes a workshop on the prevention of sexual violence and a session with the institution’s ombudsperson. In the second half of the semester, the course focuses on the fundamentals of copyright, an introduction to the professional art world and career opportunities for graduates of arts disciplines.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course
Course credit is conditional on active participation in classes. Absence from no more than 20% of the course is permitted, which corresponds to one of the six teaching blocks.
Teaching takes place in the classrooms and workshops of FFA BUT in six blocks per semester, at the times specified in the timetable. Any unexcused absence must be made up by completing an alternative assignment.
The individual blocks are taught by staff from the relevant Faculty departments as well as external specialists.
Aims
The primary aim of the course is to provide newly enrolled students in Bachelor’s programmes with the information about the operation of the Faculty that they need to navigate the structure of their studies. This includes practical and theoretical teaching, the spatial organisation of the Faculty and the individual facilities that students may use beyond their main field of study. Students will also become familiar with the procedures and forms of support available for addressing any uncertainty or difficulty, including whom to contact in such situations. By ensuring that students are as well informed as possible, the course aims to support their successful progress through their studies and help create conditions in which they understand their rights and responsibilities and feel safe.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to navigate the structure of their studies, opportunities for grant and scholarship support, the operation of the Faculty’s individual facilities and the fundamentals of the professional art world, copyright and ethics. They will also know whom to contact if they encounter any uncertainty or difficulty.
