Bohuslav Argaláš has won the international Writers and Illustrators of the Future competition
Bohuslav Argaláš, a student in the Painting Studio 2 at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Brno University of Technology, has won the international Writers and Illustrators of the Future competition, which has been supporting emerging science fiction and fantasy authors and illustrators for more than four decades. Each year, a panel of experts selects 12 illustrators and 12 writers from among emerging artists from around the world. As part of the competition, Bohuslav Argaláš created an illustration for the short story Saffron and Marigold, a lyrical tale about a baker who, following a tragic event, takes care of a dragon trapped in a cave. The award also included a trip to Los Angeles and participation in an intensive week-long program led by established illustrators and other industry professionals. The finalists attended a series of lectures, portfolio reviews, studio visits, and meetings with the authors of the texts they had illustrated. The program culminated in a gala ceremony at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood, where Bohuslav Argaláš also received the Grand Prix for illustration for his work – the Golden Brush Award.
