FFA SUMMER SCHOOLS 2026: Summer School of Performance – Getting Crazy — Applications Open Until July 6, 2026

FFA Summer Schools offer an opportunity to spend part of your summer creatively. Through these summer schools, you will learn about artistic techniques, develop your creative skills, and meet interesting people. FFA Summer Schools are open to the general public, beginners with an interest in and passion for art, as well as those interested in future study at art schools, who can familiarize themselves with the FFA environment and use the summer schools as part of their preparation for entrance exams.

SUMMER SCHOOL OF PERFORMANCE – “ŠALENÍM SA” / "GETTING CRAZY"

The summer school is intended for anyone interested in an experimental approach to performative art and who wishes to explore its possibilities in both practical and theoretical contexts. It offers an intensive five-day hands-on introduction to performance art. Under the guidance of students from four different studios at FaVU, participants will become familiar with various approaches, techniques, and methods of performance, both theoretically and practically. “Šalením sa” is an invented method used within the teaching collective. It refers to a conscious abandonment of rational control and entry into a state of open, intuitive creation, where the performer responds spontaneously to impulses from the body, space, and audience. As a method, it allows norms of behaviour to be disrupted, authentic expressions to emerge, and unexpected meanings to be generated through experimentation, absurdity, and imagination. It thus serves as a tool for expanding perception and discovering new forms of expression beyond conventional structures. During the summer school, participants will try this method firsthand and learn how to use it in their own artistic practice. The teaching team will provide not only theoretical input but also individual consultations and physical mentoring throughout the course. Participants can look forward to intensive collective work, the development of their own artistic practice, and a final public presentation of their results. The aim of the summer school is to provide a comprehensive yet accessible experience of experimental performance techniques that connect body, time, and space.

Teaching Team Profiles

The collective Izbová teplota consists of artists working in interdisciplinary performance practices:

  • Alžbeta Papíková works with video, performance, objects, and playful animal personification to open deeper understanding through ironic humour.

  • Tamara Mižaková creates fictional and transposed environments and narrative terrains through objects, photography, video, and performance.

  • Paulína Pinková combines metaphor, poetic expression, and naturalistic visual language within socio-political contexts.

  • Michal Durda explores shifting canons of queer identity and intimacy through performance.

  • Milan Hrbek contributes to theoretical and practical frameworks of contemporary performance.

The group emerged in 2025 as a non-hierarchical, fluid performative collective formed through “šalením sa” within a shared student living space.
