Lektvar 3: Festival of Game Art, 10–12 April 2026, Kino Art
The Lektvar – Festival of Game Art is entering its third year, which will take place 10–12 April 2026, at Kino Art in Brno. This year’s theme is landscapes and their role in game development. The program will feature a combination of lectures, exhibitions, presentations, workshops, and a series of short films. Organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno University of Technology, the festival will once again showcase innovative approaches to game development intertwined with other artistic media.
The Lektvar Festival will kick off its Friday program in an unconventional way with an audio walk through the area around Kino Art led by writer and musician Luděk Čertík, after which visitors will head to the festival venue. After the official opening, the evening will continue with a themed quiz. Starting Friday, the ART Gallery will also host the exhibition Polospánek by Lucie Polášková and Vojtěch Vaněk. The third installment of this exhibition project combines physical reality and virtual spirituality, and its sculptural dimension is explored through a series of staffs inspired by the magical ore from the video game series Gothic.
On Saturday, the festival will feature four blocks of game presentations, during which a total of twelve Czech and Slovak projects selected through a nationwide open call will be showcased. “This year, nearly seventy projects were submitted – ranging from concepts and sketches to finished works. We enjoyed wandering, lingering, and otherwise contemplating the virtual landscapes that were sent in. In the end, we selected the 12 most interesting ones, with the intention of hearing during the presentations how the landscape takes center stage or shapes the character of the work,” says Zdeněk Rychtera from the Lektvar festival’s organizing team.
Visitors can look forward to games such as Bajka by Vladimír Kudělka, Scribe by Rawmeat, Summit Smash by Cosy Den, Say cheese! by Viktor Bobůrka and Ella Weger, and KRAA by Kristina Bartová and Josef Šmíd. In addition to digital games, board games will also be featured at the festival. Radim Jurda from Amanita Design, in collaboration with the board game studio Pink Troubadour, will present their new title, Pilgrims: Curious Adventures. Students from the Game Media Studio at FaVU VUT and FIT VUT will also participate, presenting their own prototypes. Visitors will be able to borrow and test these prototypes. Thematic lectures will then explore the broader context of game development – for example, Czech trail marker Alois Zeman will present the history of marking hiking trails, and Emil Gašparec will follow up with a talk on level design in relation to landscapes. The interactive part of the festival program will feature Štěpánka Trčková’s workshop “Light and Shadow.” The festival will also feature screenings of short films and an unconventional confessional for gaming sins, in which visitors can participate. This year’s festival will conclude with the launch of Depozin #2, which will present design principles in the creation of virtual landscapes.
“At the festival, we will also introduce the newly formed Association for Game-Based Education, to which we invite all game-based educators,” says Natálie Konečná, festival organizer and researcher at the FFA BUT.
The festival is free for all participants. You can register now at www.festivallektvar.cz, where full details are also available.
