Guided tour of the mourning hall in Brno-Židenice with Šárka Svobodová, 17 May 2026
On Sunday, 17 May 2026, at 15:00, as part of Open House Brno, there will be a guided tour of the newly renovated mourning hall in Brno-Židenice. The tour will be led by Šárka Svobodová, a teacher at the FFA BUT and an architectural historian, and Petr Kunc, the district mayor.
The Faculty of Fine Arts and the Faculty of Architecture at BUT were at the forefront of efforts to preserve this exceptionally valuable building, constructed between 1977 and 1985 according to a design by architect Ivan Ruller. To make a case for its preservation, they jointly published a book in 2013 titled The Mourning Hall in Brno-Židenice, in which numerous experts document the extraordinary significance of this mourning hall and the works of art that are part of it.
