Call for Applications: Erasmus+ BIP – The Digital Body, deadline 30 Sep 2026

FFA BUT offers its students the opportunity to participate in the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) “The Digital Body”, organised by the University of Applied Arts Vienna (Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien) in Vienna, Austria.

The programme connects digital art and performative practice and focuses on the relationship between the body and digital technologies. Participants will explore how bodily movement and digital systems can interact and how these connections can generate new forms of artistic expression. The programme combines three online working sessions, individual and group work, interdisciplinary collaboration, and an intensive on-site residency in Vienna, concluding with a public presentation of the outcomes.

Who is the programme for?

The programme is intended for students in the field of art, particularly those whose artistic practice or studies relate to digital art, multimedia, new media, performance, movement, audiovisual practice, interactive technologies, or other approaches combining physical and digital environments.

Participants will work in interdisciplinary groups, engage in practical research and experimentation, and jointly develop artistic projects throughout both the online and physical parts of the programme.

Programme structure

Online phase

The online part consists of three joint working sessions:

  • 19 October 2026 – Introduction & Vocabulary Mapping: introduction to the topic and development of a shared conceptual vocabulary,
  • 16 November 2026 – Experimentation & Group Formation: practical experimentation and formation of working groups,
  • 7 December 2026 – Project Development & Residency Preparation: development of the joint projects and preparation for the physical residency in Vienna.

The online phase consists of three six-hour joint working sessions combining expert input, individual and group work, conceptualisation, experimentation, exchange and feedback.

During the online phase, five interdisciplinary working groups will be formed and will continue working together during the physical part of the programme. Each group should ideally consist of four students focusing on performance or body-based practice and two students working in digital or media art. Staff members from the partner universities and Angewandte, together with external mentors, will also be involved in the work of the groups. Additionally, participants will also define the technical, production and other requirements of their projects in order to be fully prepared for the residency in March.

Physical residency in Vienna: 15–20 March 2027

During the six-day intensive part, the working groups will continue developing the projects initiated during the online phase. The preliminary programme is as follows:

  • 15 March – arrival, alignment and organisation of the working groups,
  • 16 March – experimentation refinement,
  • 17 March – peer feedback and further project development,
  • 18 March – compositional development,
  • 19 March – technical integration and full run-throughs,
  • 20 March – public Open Lab / presentation of the outcomes.

The detailed schedule of the physical part will be further specified by the organisers.

For the physical part, Angewandte will provide working spaces, the seminar programme and guest contributors, access to available technical infrastructure, organisational support, a public presentation opportunity, and a Vienna public transport ticket.

Credits and recognition

Upon successful completion of the programme, students will receive 4 ECTS credits. The completed BIP will be duly recognised within the study plan. Both the online part and the physical residency in Vienna are compulsory components of the programme.

The administrative steps related to the Erasmus+ mobility will only need to be completed before the physical part of the programme in March 2027. No additional mobility documentation needs to be arranged before the online phase; selected participants are only required to attend the online sessions. The FFA International Office will inform the selected students about the administrative procedure before the mobility to Vienna in due time.

Erasmus+ Financial Support

Participants will receive Erasmus+ financial support for short-term blended study mobility (€79 per day + travel support). The amount of funding and the conditions for its provision are subject to the current Erasmus+ programme rules. The financial support is intended primarily to cover costs associated with travel and the stay abroad.

The following documents must be attached to the e-application:

  • motivation letter, in which the applicant explains their interest in participating in the programme and describes any experience or artistic practice relevant to the BIP topic,
  • GDPR document.

Number of places for FFA BUT: 4 students 
Applicants will be selected based on an assessment of their applications. Particular consideration will be given to the applicant’s motivation, the relevance of their artistic practice or field of study to the programme topic, and their potential for active participation in interdisciplinary collaboration.
