Exhibition Ruller 91+9, Gallery of Architecture Brno, opening 19 November 2026
The exhibition Ruller 91+9 will open on Thursday, 19 November 2026, at 18:00 at the Gallery of Architecture Brno (Starobrněnská 18). The exhibition has been organised by the Brno City Museum in collaboration with the Gallery of Architecture Brno and with the support of the Czech Architecture Foundation to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of prominent Brno architect Ivan Ruller. One of the exhibition’s central interpretative themes is a selection of graphic works by Jan Šrámek, a lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts at BUT. The works focus on architectural details and artistic ornamentation found in Ivan Ruller’s now iconic buildings in Brno. They are presented as large-format prints on three-dimensional blocks designed by the Pixle studio. When assembled in seemingly random arrangements, the blocks place details of Ruller’s architecture in a new context, creating the illusion of a new city. Through Jan Šrámek’s fresh artistic interpretation, Ivan Ruller’s work is thus brought into dialogue with contemporary visual art.
The exhibition’s second thematic focus is on the architect’s original models, which showcase some of his significant unrealised projects. The models accompanied Ivan Ruller throughout much of his distinctive teaching career at the Faculty of Architecture at Brno University of Technology, where he had a profound and lasting influence on a generation of architects who are active in the field today.
To mark the 100th anniversary of Ivan Ruller’s birth, a publication featuring Jan Šrámek’s graphic works will also be released. It is being published by VUTIUM in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno University of Technology.
