The Designblok jury awarded the Grand Prix to all exhibiting students!
FFA students are among the recipients of this year’s Designblok Awards. The international jury awarded the highest honour, Grand Prix – Award for Outstanding Achievement, unprecedentedly to all students participating in this year’s festival. The award recognises not only individual artistic and product design achievements, but also the broader significance of art and design schools and the emerging generation of designers. At the 28th edition of Designblok, FFA BUT is presenting its work as part of the School Today exhibition format at the UMPRUM Technology Centre in Prague. The FFA lootbox installation explores the relationship between fine art and design and how they complement one another in exhibition practice. As a possible response to the Faculty of Fine Arts’ spatial needs, it presents a prototype vertical arbour that serves as the starting point for the design of modular exhibition furniture. The ongoing renovation of the faculty has prompted the development of the furniture, creating a need to transport and exhibit artworks in a variety of spatial conditions. The arbour accommodates a range of artworks by FFA BUT students and alumni. The fine art section of the lootbox features works by Štěpánka Adámková, Olga Staňková, Veronika Šavarová and Eva Jaroňová. The design section is represented by works by Aneta Kubatková and Terezie Krísová.
According to Max Fraser, president of the international jury of Designblok Awards 2026, the Grand Prix – Award for Outstanding Achievement also recognises the collective effort and potential of the emerging generation: “As a jury, what struck us most as we visited presentations across the city was a rare flash of optimism. The winners of this award represent one of the most compelling expressions of what design can offer.”
The School Today section presents the work of art and design schools within the premises of one of the participating institutions, enabling visitors to compare contemporary themes, approaches and working methods across schools and disciplines. Alongside FFA BUT, the participating institutions include UMPRUM, VSB – Technical University of Ostrava in collaboration with Tomas Bata University in Zlín, and the Secondary School of Art and Design and Higher Vocational School in Brno. Designblok 2026 takes place from 6 to 11 October 2026. The FaVU lootbox installation is located at the UMPRUM Technology Centre (Mikulandská 134/5, Prague) and is open to the public free of charge.
