Josef Hlávka Award for Andreas Gajdošík

Congratulations to Andreas Gajdošík, who has been awarded the Josef Hlávka Award by the Josef, Marie and Zdeňka Hlávka Foundation.

Andreas Gajdošík is a graduate of Bachelor and Master studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the BUT, where he is currently pursuing his doctoral studies with artistic research on the topic "Cultural artefact in the time of its automated genesis: ontology, social role and impact of machine-generated artefacts". During his studies at the FFA BUT, Gajdošík was already a laureate of the most important Czech prize in the field of visual arts for artists under 35 - the Jindřich Chalupecký Prize. In his socially engaged work, he aptly and wittily grasps the pressing problems of our time. His authorial, deliberately de-estheticized artistic approach is characterized, in addition to humour, by a distinctive sensitivity and poetics. His work consists in interventions in the media sphere and social networks, in the creation of mystification software or websites, with the aim of forming a space for critical reflection on the established structures of the art world, but also on the political space and its extreme positions. Through performances, programming or sound actions, he creates ironic and satirical commentaries seeking to change the status quo. Gajdošík has presented his work within the independent European gallery scene, but also, for example, at Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich during the Manifesta 11 biennial. He was also awarded the Rector's Commemorative Medal for his selfless volunteer work during the pandemic.
