llustrations by Veronika Vlková and Jan Šrámek at the Czech Centre in Tokyo
Illustrations by Veronika Vlková and Jan Šrámek, teachers at the Faculty of Fine Arts BUT, will be on display as part of the exhibition Apolenka z modrotisku at the Czech Centre Gallery in Tokyo from 2 October to 30 November 2026. The book Apolenka z modrotisku was written and conceived by Romana Košutková and illustrated by Veronika Vlková and Jan Šrámek. For their illustrations, Vlková and Šrámek received the 2020 Illustrator of the Year award at the Czech Grand Design Awards. The book was also nominated for the Golden Ribbon Award and shortlisted in the Best Czech Books of the Year competition in the Children’s and Young Adult Literature category. In 2023, it was published in a Japanese translation by Kyuryudo. For the first time in Japan, the exhibition will present not only the original illustrations from the book, but also materials and objects introducing the techniques and patterns of traditional Czech blueprint printing.
