Radio Alhara — Doing sound politically

This talk reflects on Radio AlHara as a collective media practice that approaches politics not primarily through representation, but through form, process, and modes of organisation. Drawing on Jean-Luc Godard’s distinction between making political content and making culture politically, it proposes a notion of militancy grounded in everyday practice: a commitment to building spaces, infrastructures, and tools for collective engagement rather than to symbolic gestures or top-down models of mobilisation.

RADIO ALHARA

Launched from Palestine during the first global lockdown in March 2020, Radio Alhara is an online radio station that envisions a public space that blurs the line between producers and listeners.

The radio is constantly reshaped by its community and its needs, and it questions the political relevance of sonic content in general. The radio focuses primarily on sound and hosts music mixes, album releases, podcasts, cooking shows, talk shows and radio plays.
