Prof. PaedDr. Radek Horáček, Ph.D. (1959–2026)
It is with sadness that we announce that Prof. PaedDr. Radek Horáček, Ph.D. (1959–2026), art theorist, curator and educator and a long-standing member of the Artistic Board and the Doctoral Studies Board of FFA BUT, died in Brno on Friday 25 September 2026 at the age of 67. He was one of the founders of doctoral studies at our faculty, led the doctoral programme from 2010 to 2012 and taught at the Department of Art History and Theory; on both boards he then helped shape the faculty's study programmes and artistic direction. A pioneer of gallery education in the Czech Republic, he was for many years head of the Department of Art Education at the Faculty of Education, Masaryk University, and founded the Week of Visual Culture, today's Brno Art Week. For four decades he was a key figure on the Brno art scene: as chair of the TT Club of Visual Artists, director of the Brno House of Arts (2002–2006) and curator of dozens of exhibitions, he opened up the work of many artists to the public. In 2024 he received the BUT Gold Medal for his contribution to the development of the university. He could talk about art in a way that everyone understood. We honour his memory.
