Eva Jaroňová and Jan Sláma work with different themes and visual languages, yet similar motifs naturally meet in their work—dialogues and intertwinings between the worlds of humans, animals, plants, and the cosmos. The boundaries of individuals blur, and bodies gradually dissolve, only to reconnect with the surrounding world. Transformation, decay, and rebirth become central principles, often presented with playfulness, exaggeration, and dark humour. Both artists attempt to grasp, through logical thinking, the intuitiveness that is characteristic of their work, effortlessly combining diverse artistic media and thematic content. A subtle subtext of their first joint exhibition is the shared horoscope sign Virgo—Eva and Jan were born on the same day and year—which poetically echoes in the exhibition’s title. In both of them, the sense of detail and structure associated with this astrological profile appears rather quietly, in small gestures and hidden order that simultaneously enjoy being disrupted by spontaneity and inventiveness. Virgos Overgrown with Roses thus grows out of a unique constellation of shared sensitivity, humour, and unexpected creative intertwinings.
