Although we long for solidarity, mutual support, and collective organization, in the current circumstances we do not always have enough strength for this.
The core of the Park of Culture and Sighs at the Ján Koniarek Gallery in Trnava is a changing structure made of plastic crates full of energy drinks, which we use to keep ourselves in a state of constant productivity, fight fatigue, and deny our own limits and needs. The program consists of regular events—performances, discussions, support groups, workshops—prepared on the basis of an open call by members of the Cultural Departments. Let's focus our energy on supporting each other, learning, taking care of ourselves, and encouraging cooperation to improve our (not only working) conditions!
Among other things, we are inspired by the practice of workers' clubs or workers' homes, which were spaces and tools for education, relaxation, and cultural and political enlightenment of workers. Originally, such clubs were created independently, as part of the collective organization and political emancipation of the working class. Park of Culture and Sighs is an offer to collectively create such a space/tool in the conditions of late capitalism, from and for today's notoriously tired workers in culture and beyond.
