Printmaking – etching

The course is designed as a series of lectures and follow-up practical exercises, focused on etching - one of the intaglio techniques. In this course, attention is paid in particular to the techniques of line etching, aquatint, reserving and soft cover. Emphasis is placed on individual selection of practical activities. Within the classes, students will become familiar with the etching workshop and work procedures. The course will include the opportunity to work in the printmaking workshop independently during open hours. Part of the lectures will be devoted to current trends and artists who work with etching.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course
- attendance in class (2 permitted unexcused absences) or submission of an "extra" assignment
- submission of completed standard assignments
- in the credit week students submit a practical assignment according to the assignment formulated in the first third of the course. Each project will be discussed with the instructor.
Classes take place in the printmaking workshop of the FFA BUT in the hours determined by the schedule. Minimum participation is 85%. Making up for missed lessons takes place after agreement with the teacher in the form of individual consultations.
Aims
After completing the course, students will be familiar with the procedures and possibilities of etching techniques. They will be aware of the place of etching in the context of contemporary art theory and practice.
