Original Abstract

The essay titled Hard shells and flickering reflections of bloodthirsty zombie modernity reflects on both Cyprien Gaillard’s solo show at Trafó Gallery and the topics the artist raises, such as the legacy of modernity, deep time, and the Anthropocene. In the essay, the artist’s oeuvre is situated within the context of the so-called historiographical turn, and it is demonstrated how the more recent work both diverts from it and remains dedicated to the project of rethinking modernity, yet in the different setup of raising fascism and normalisation of wars.
