Abstract
A three-level, six-phase 800 V motor inverter was developed and constructed within the AI4CSM project. The inverter is based on IGBT switching devices and uses an Active Neutral Point Clamping (ANPC) topology (six switches per phase). The three-level inverter offers reduced phase current ripple compared to traditional two-level inverters. Additionally, by distributing voltage stress across more switches, the switching devices rated to lower breakdown voltage could be used in the ANPC inverter (GaN switching devices are also used for this task in the AI4CSM). The inverter comprises a total of six phase modules, the low-voltage board, the DC link circuit, and the water cooler. The phase modules integrate high voltage circuits and ANPC IGBT power modules (Infineon) rated to 100 A RMS. The power modules are mounted on a custom-designed, CNC-machined water-cooling element. The low-voltage board connects six phase modules (via isolated gate driver modules) to the controller board. It also integrates sensor interfaces, inverter control logic, and DC link voltage measurement. The whole inverter is controlled by ZF's controller board, designed in the AI4CSM project, based on Infineon AURIX 3rd generation microcontroller. The microcontroller is running motor control and diagnostic software developed by BUT. The inverter and the software were tested with a six-phase motor with winding fault emulation at the dynamometer testbench.
