Môže byť mesto pre každého? Môže svoju špecificky mestskú infraštruktúru orientovať väčšmi na starostlivosť než na krátkodobú prestíž obmedzenú na volebné obdobia? Dokázali by sme si dokonca mesto predstaviť ako nástroj, ktorým by bolo možné zmierňovať dopady ekonomických rozdielov medzi obyvateľstvom a prispievať k lepšiemu svetu, ktorý nediskriminuje a nesegreguje, ale vytvára priestor ochrany a pomoci? Ako najpálčivejší problém, ktorý bráni predstavám o lepších mestách, sa dnes ukazuje predovšetkým kríza bývania. Práve bývanie vnímané ako právo a nie ako vymoženosť je prvým krokom k dostupnejším a starostlivejším mestám. Prípadová štúdia obsiahnutá v tejto knihe na vyššie položené otázky odpovedá hĺbkovou analýzou. Forenzným prístupom k terénu vylúčenej lokality ukazuje, ako sú časopriestorové vrstvy segregácie uložené jedna cez druhú a vrhá nové svetlo na tušené, no nie priamo artikulované praktiky segregácie. Často latentné či skryté majú v sociálnej a ekonomickej štruktúre mesta zapustené hlboké korene. Prípad, ktorým sme sa v dvojročnom projekte zaoberali, je v tejto knihe popísaný ako postupné odkrývanie týchto vrstiev tzv. infraštruktúry segregácie. Zároveň s odkrývaním sme sa priamym zasahovaním do prebiehajúcich dejov usilovali o mobilizovanie zmeny k lepšiemu. Zásahy sme chápali ako prvé kroky k niečomu, čo možno nazvať infraštruktúrou starostlivosti. Jej ambíciou je ponúknuť iný scenár pre lokalitu a iný dizajn pre mesto s ohľadom na konkrétne možnosti dostupné v slovenskom prostredí.

Can there be a city for everyone? Can it orient its specifically urban infrastructure towards care rather than short-term prestige limited to electoral terms? Could we even imagine the city infrastructure as a tool to mitigate the effects of economic disparities among the population and contribute to a better world that does not discriminate or segregate, but creates spaces of protection and care? The housing crisis in particular is emerging as the most pressing problem today that hinders the vision of better cities. It is housing, seen as a right and not as a privilege, that is the first step towards more affordable and more caring cities. The case study contained in this book answers the above questions with an in-depth analysis. By taking a forensic approach to the terrain of an excluded locality, the book shows how the spatiotemporal layers of segregation are superimposed one over the other and sheds new light on the perceived, but not directly articulated, practices of segregation. Often latent or hidden, they have deep roots embedded in the social and economic fabric of the city. The case we have been working on in this two-year project is described in this book as a gradual uncovering of these layers of the so-called infrastructure of segregation. At the same time as the uncovering, we sought to mobilize change for the better by intervening directly in the ongoing processes. We have understood interventions as the first steps towards something that can be called infrastructure of care. Its ambition is to offer a different scenario for the locality and a different design for the city, taking into account the specific possibilities available in the Slovak environment.
