Opening of the exhibitions Beyond the Sound and Symbionts 2.0, 4 April 2024, 18:00

We cordially invite you to the opening of the exhibitions Beyond the Sound and Symbionts 2.0 on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 18:00 at the House of Arts.

Beyond the Sound
Jana Winderen (NO), Interspecifics (MX), Gil Delindro (PT), ::vtol:: (RU), Raviv Ganchrow (US/IL/NL), Evelina Domnitch (NL) + Dmitry Gelfand (NL), Ioana Vreme Moser (RO/DE), 5. 4. – 14. 7.
The international exhibition Beyond the Sound presents a contemporary approach to the specific and lively artistic field of sound art. It views sound not as an independent aesthetic form, but as a medium for exploring and revealing phenomena that are often unknowable to the eye. Each of the selected artists represents a different approach to the use of sound as a communication medium. All of the selected installations and objects are united by an interest in innovatively exploring the world through sound and conveying an ephemeral but important message about the intricate complexity and fragility of its relationships. At the same time, the selected artists are also attentive to visual expression and object form and understand their work as complex, interdisciplinary and often technologically groundbreaking. The exhibition is a part of the multidisciplinary FAUN festival realized by Zahrady soutoku, z.s., the concert part of which will take place on 12–13 April 2024 at the Husa na provázku Theatre and the House of Arts Brno. The project is implemented with the financial support of the EEA and Norway Grants, 2014–2021. The project partners are FFA BUT, Norsk Jazzforum and Ponava Cafe & Radio. The exhibition is held under the auspices of Mr. Martin Baxa, the Minister of Culture, and Mrs. Markéta Vaňková, the Mayor of the City of Brno.

Symbionts 2.0
Csilla Nagy, Slávo Krekovič, 5. 4. – 19. 5.
Symbionts 2.0 is a new version of Csilla Nagy's and Slava Krekovic's project from 2021. Their concept began as a speculative reflection on the future of life on the planet. Formally, the objects are inspired by the study of marine fungi of the Porifera species representing an ancient blind evolutionary branch. The project aims to explore the interrelationships between humans, the environment, nature and technology through the creation of hybrid environments in which the boundaries between nature and technology, human and non-human (or post-human) actors are blurred. The exhibition will consist of sonic interactive ceramic objects which are data-connected and thus capable of communication based on the reception of conditions in the surrounding environment. Symbionts algorithmically transform sounds from a shared and freely available web database. The ceramic objects have varying metallic glazes that reflect the surrounding environment mirroring their interaction component.
