The new visual identity of Prague Integrated Transport was designed by a studio that includes Mikuláš Macháček, a lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno University of Technology (FFA BUT).
The new graphic design for the appearance of transport vehicles and the overall visual identity of the integrated public transport system of the Capital City of Prague and the Central Bohemian Region was the result of a design competition organised by the professional organisation Czechdesign. The winning proposal from the studio superlative.works most impressed the expert jury. The designers created a very modern and clean visual concept for the entire system, with a colour palette that also pays homage to the iconic T3 tram. Key criteria included system clarity, comfortable font legibility, and safety. Without requiring additional costs, newly purchased vehicles for Prague’s public transport will now feature a modern and unified colour scheme – for the first time ever based on the outcome of a design competition.
Designers Mikuláš Macháček, Petr Štěpán, and Bohumil Vašák joined forces under the name superlative.works. Together, they represent more than 60 years of experience in corporate identity and transport graphic design (notably, Petr Štěpán received the Czech Grand Design award for his wayfinding system and visual identity for Czech Railways). In addition to applied design, they are also interested in its social implications and are active in teaching. They have completed projects for major brands across both private and public sectors, such as Czech Television, the gastronomic groups Ambiente and Together, as well as Archa Theatre and the Činoherní klub. Mikuláš Macháček also serves as the head lecturer of Graphic Design Studio 2 at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno University of Technology.
The competition attracted leading Czech graphic studios, known not only for their reputation but above all for their extensive experience.
