Students and Professors from FFA BUT Shine in the Most Beautiful Czech Books of 2020 Competition

The awards for the Most Beautiful Czech Books of 2020 were announced and ceremoniously presented at the Architecture and Urban Planning Center in Prague (CAMP). This year, the expert jury selected from a total of 323 submitted books, with 31 of them receiving nominations. In the catalog category, the first place was awarded to graphic designers Adéla Svobodová and Tereza Hejmová for the publication Fashion in Blue, allowing them to participate in the preparation of the visual identity for the next year’s competition.

The first place and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic Award in the "Books on Fine Art" category went to Andi Schmied: Private Views: A High-rise Panorama of Manhattan, designed by Tereza Hejmová, a professor at the Graphic Design Studio 2 of FFA VUT. The third place in the same category was awarded to designer Adam Macháček for the design of Stories of Lacquer by Milan Houser, head of the Traditional Media Studio at FFA VUT, published by VUTIUM last year. The second place in the "Beautiful Literature" category went to Štěpán Marko for the design of Salty Mascara, an author’s book by artist Valentýna Janů, who became a new professor at the Intermedia Studio of FaVU VUT. The first place and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic Award in the "Catalogs" category was again awarded to Tereza Hejmová, who, together with Adéla Svobodová, was behind the graphic design of Fashion in Blue. Tradition and Contemporary Indigo in Japanese and Czech Textiles by Markéta Vinglerová. The "National Literature Memorial Award for Young Designers Under 30" was received by FFA VUT graduates Tereza Bierská and Nela Klímová for the graphic design of the book Sacraments by Lucie Králíková, a PhD student at FFA VUT.

The Most Beautiful Czech Books of the Year competition is held annually by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the National Literature Memorial. In the competition for the best book design, the graphic, illustrative, and printing quality of books published by Czech publishers and printed by Czech printers in the last calendar year is evaluated.
