Publication Czech Consumer Fairy Tales won the Golden Ribbon Award 2025

Pavel Ryška's publication České spotřební pohádky [Czech Consumer Fairy Tales], published by FFA, won the Golden Ribbon Award 2025 [Zlatá stuha] in the category Theory and Criticism of Literature (Art) for Children and Youth!
The Golden Ribbon Award [Zlatá stuha] is given annually to the authors of the best books for children and young people published in the Czech language. It has existed for more than 30 years and is the only award in the Czech Republic focused exclusively on children's literature. The award is announced by the Czech section of IBBY - Society of Friends of Books for Young People, and co-organised by the Children's Book Illustrators Club, Translators' Association, The National Pedagogical Museum and Library of JA Comenius and Memorial of National Literature.

Golden Ribbon Award

The Golden Ribbon is an annual award presented to authors and illustrators of the best books for children and young people published in the Czech language. Established over 30 years ago, it remains the only award in the Czech Republic exclusively dedicated to children’s literature. The books are carefully selected by juries composed of leading writers, visual artists, and academic experts in the relevant fields. For this reason, the Golden Ribbon serves as a hallmark of quality in children’s literature and offers valuable guidance for parents, educators, and librarians navigating the complex landscape of today’s book market. Through its accompanying programmes, it also promotes reading literacy, fosters a love of books, and supports children’s cultural engagement. In addition to selecting and announcing the winning titles, the organisers of the Golden Ribbon coordinate a travelling exhibition of illustrations by nominated artists, which is complemented by author readings and art workshops. Through its website, the award provides comprehensive information on all nominated works and regularly reports on developments in the field of children’s literature. As part of its mission to encourage reading, the initiative also targets schools and libraries, offering professional seminars on methods of working with literature, author talks, activity sheets, and other resources. The first Golden Ribbons were awarded in 1993, when submissions from the first and second halves of the year were evaluated separately. Among the inaugural laureates were prominent figures in Czech children’s literature such as Iva Procházková, Vladimír Hulpach, Gabriel Filcík, Adolf Born, Karel Franta, and Miloslav Jágr. The award is organised by the Czech section of IBBY – the Society of Friends of the Book for Young People, in collaboration with the Children’s Book Illustrators’ Club, the Translators’ Guild, the National Pedagogical Museum and Library of J. A. Comenius, and the Museum of Czech Literature.
