The aim of the Multimedia Archives is to open and reflect the archives of the faculty that has existed since 1994. The collection focuses on works in the fields of video art, performance and multimedia from the 1990s to the present. An important part is also the documentation of exhibitions and Hi-Tech symposia (1994–1997) in Brno that presented the work of world-renowned authors such as Stelarc, Bohuslav and Steina Vasulka, Chris Hill, and Jeffrey Shaw. The historically valuable archive materials also include the video archives of Bohuslav Vasulka, a Brno native and globally recognized artist who was conferred an honorary doctorate by BUT in 2004. He presented the Czech premiere of the now legendary performance Hybrid Automata Theater (BVV, Invex Trade Fair, 1993). This archive material has not been accessible to researchers and the general public interested in art yet. Creating an Internet database is a unique opportunity to change it. The archives will also include editorial selections in the form of a professional reflection of archived works, allowing a better understanding of the contemporary context of the emergence and development of multimedia art in the Czech Republic. For the time being, the preparatory team of the multimedia archives project has evaluated the state of the technical background of the Faculty of Fine Arts and its possibilities for the project implementation. Furthermore, the basic parameters of the database portal and the necessary requirements for the implementation of a functional and sustainable online archive have been defined.
