Jakub Jansa, head of the FFA Performance Studio, wins the Paul Thorel Prize
Fondazione Paul Thorel has announced a new format for the Paul Thorel Prize, a platform dedicated to digital art established in 2023, and has also presented the winners of its fourth edition. After the first three editions, which focused primarily on the Italian art scene, the prize is now opening up to an international context while continuing to support Italian artists. This year, two laureates have been selected: Italian transmedia artist S()fia Braga and Czech artist and FFA BUT lecturer Jakub Jansa. Both will receive a one-month residency in Naples, where Paul Thorel’s former studio and archive are located. Thorel was an Italian-French pioneer of the electronic image and digital photography. The laureates will also have the opportunity to hold a solo exhibition in the newly renovated spaces of Fondazione Paul Thorel. The prize’s new format thus builds on the project’s original open international ambition and expands it by offering stronger support for individual artistic presentation. 
Jakub Jansa, whose work brings together installation, film, performance, fiction, humour and grotesque elements, has long explored the fragility of the social systems in which we live and the ideologies that shape them. He has presented his work at venues and events including the Athens Biennale, Pioneer Works in New York, HEK in Basel and Anthology Film Archives, and in 2026 he is representing the Czech Republic at the 61st Venice Biennale.
