FFA SUMMER SCHOOLS 2026: Summer School of Sustainable Design – Upcycling, applications open until 23 July 2026
FFA Summer Schools offer an opportunity to spend part of your summer creatively. Through these summer schools, you will learn about artistic techniques, develop your creative skills, and meet interesting people. FFA Summer Schools are open to the general public, beginners with an interest in and passion for art, as well as those interested in future study at art schools, who can familiarize themselves with the FFA environment and use the summer schools as part of their preparation for entrance exams.
SUMMER SCHOOL OF SUSTAINABLE DESIGN – UPCYCLING
This summer school is intended for both beginners and advanced participants interested in sustainable design and fashion. During the course, participants will be introduced to the concept of the circular economy in relation to design—specifically focusing on upcycling as one of the paths toward environmentally sustainable design. Lecturer Terezie Krísová will share her professional experience, including information on where and how to source waste materials for design projects. The practical part will focus on creative material work, pattern design, structural solutions, and the production process itself. Emphasis will be placed on the ability to respond to material properties and to understand the relationship between design, construction, and final execution. Participants will design and create an original product (e.g., an accessory such as a bag or handbag) made from advertising banners.
The aim of the summer school is to introduce participants to the process of realizing a designed product and to allow them to test structural principles and object functionality in practice. The acquired experience can be applied in further studies, independent creative practice, and future professional direction in the field of design. An integral part of the course is the development of sustainable and circular thinking in design.
